Haiti Round Table Meetings at MIT packed a punch
.
Andrew Stern, CEO of Action for Clean Energy, and I attended a Round Table Discussion with Massachusetts State Representatives Marie St-Fleur and Linda Dorcena Forry, over at the MIT Media Lab auditorium a few days back, (it was Feb 17!),
I was really impressed by the commitment and concern of our Haitian State Rep, and I was blown away by the scale of problems in Haiti. Several of the efforts, according to Ms. St-Fleur, and going to require nation sized commitments, namely: removing the rubble, and rebuilding the city, rebuilding the ports must be done first!.
The larger issue that was raised is of coordination and governance of all the agencies and organizations involved. The Haitian government is not up to the task of the massive project management effort that is required, and so far it seems, the NGO’s, (Non Government Organizations) are acting on their own behalf.
Our interest is to see that Haiti is rebuilt with a sustainable energy infrastructure in place, and become a model for future large scale developments.
